Ep. 4 Virtual Reality, Can it take us to church?

Posted on September 23, 2016April 9, 2020 by D. Ashley Campbell

Is virtual reality a good medium for religion journalism?

KC McGinnis, a visual journalist based in Iowa, joins me to explore this question. From empathy to artifice, we examine the pros and cons of virtual reality media.

Ashley and KC examine the New York Times’ various VR stories and discuss the idea of immersive journalism. In particular, they talk about KC’s project that took viewers into a rural diocese in Iowa.

#ReligionNerd Moment

G. Willow Wilson, author of Ms. Marvel, came to the University of Colorado-Boulder. After recording the episode on religion and comics with Jeremy, Ashley could not miss out on the opportunity to meet such an influential person. It was definitely a fan girl moment!
